Hi Mario,
I read your thread regarding how long it takes to add support for a new RAW format or camera.
But I just have to ask: any idea when RAW support will be available for the Samsung TL500 that I just purchased?
I just want to make sure it's even on your radar screen!

Thanks,
Dan

Hi, Dan

I suggest you check if Samsung provides a WIC codec for your file format. If they do, IMatch supports your camera already.

You can also check if the FastPictureViewer Codec Pack contains support for the file format produced by your camera. For 10 US$ well worth the money.

I cannot tell if and when the image library vendors will support your camera model. They usually concentrate on the major vendors, which means Canon, Nikon, Sony and what else is used in the professional and up-level amateur market. Support for Samsung RAW formats is most likely not on their top-priority list.

Thanks for the fast response! That's what i call service, and why I keep supporting iMatch.

Hi Mario,
Okay, I purchased the FastPictureViewer Codec Pack and installed it. At first it didn't work on my XP SP3 machine for thumbnails, so I posted on their forums and they actually responded quickly; they found a problem with .srw files on XP!:

"Fixed. It was indeed a small registration issue occurring only on XP. Please re-download and install the new version."

So, I downloaded the updated version and installed that and now I have .srw thumbnails; I then installed Windows Live Photo Gallery, and that does show the full-size embedded .jpeg image from the .srw file (as it does with my .nef files).

BUT, I cannot get iMatch (3.6.0.94) to even recognize the .srw files....I've added the .srw extension under "Use Windows WIC codecs.." under Options>Preferences>File Format Preferences.

I even created a new test database for the new Samsung .SRW files. No go...

Any idea why iMatch does not even acknowledge these files? (There is no option for .SRW during a folder import, BTW.)

On another topic (sorry): Why does the NUM Pad not work for rating photos? e.g., CTRL + 1 works with the number keys above the QWERTY keyboard, but CTRL + (NUMPad)1 does not work?

Thanks for any help.

None of the third party imaging library vendors has support for Samsung at this time. I could not find anything about support for this file format, or specifics.

The .SRW extension seems to be knew and is unknown to IMatch at this time. IMatch recognizes image formats by file extension and by file header. Since the format is new, IMatch does not add the files to your database, correct? This was not clear from your posting, I assumed that IMatch merely was unable to render the thumbnails for the new RAW formats.

I would need a sample file (see also my email to you) so I can run some tests and see how this new format ticks. I can then add it to IMatch.

What you can try is to add the format as a generic multi-media format to the IMatch file format configuration file. This will allow IMatch to include the files into the database at least.

Please see this post for details:

You are correct. iMatch will not add the .SRW files to the database.

I sent you an .SRW (RAW) file to you via email for testing (22 MB!).

Keep me posted on your findings and thanks again for your expertise.

Please try the trick of adding the new file extension as a new MULTI_MEDIA format. This should be a work-around.

I did implement the workaround, and now IMatch does import the files.
However, a few oddities:

First, if you right-click and open the image in Image Reviewer, the colors are all weird. (see attached image)

Secondly, the Slideshow feature will not show the full-size embedded .jpg of the .srw file, whereas Windows Live Photo Gallery will (which tells me that the WIC implementation is working on the PC). I have added the .srw extension to "Use Windows WIC codecs" preferences section.

Any idea if IMatch should show the full-size embedded .jpeg?

Description: .SRW thumbnail shows correctly, but right-clicking it and opening Image Reviewer shows weird colorss.
