Hello,

every few months I want to do a keyword search, but for some reason I always fail to find something.
Here is the scenario.

Image download and initial keywords done via Downloader Pro.
Import in Imatch, where the Keywords appear in the IPTC Keywords and in the XMP field {Image.XMP.http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/dc:subject}.

I have the following XMP Settings...

Now, when I go into the "Selection" tab and do a search for XMP Data and choose:

I never get any results...

what am I doing wrong? how can I search?

Thx.

This all looks correct to me.

I just made a test:

  • adding the keyword "player" to one of my images via the IPTC editor.
  • Checking with the XMP editor that the keywords is imported into XMP.
  • Run the same search as in your screen shot.

The image was returned in the result. All OK.

When you open the XMP editor for one of your images, are the keywords shown in the dc:subject field?

Yes, the Keywords appear in XMP:

Thanks a lot Mario.
EDIT, just in case... I'm still on version 3.6.0.94... in case that was an issue at the time..

And when you search for

%hirsch%

IMatch returns nothing?

Just in case, update to the .114. Your version is over a year old...

I have searched, and Imatch returns nothing.

It's a search with only XMP Data as a selector. Nothing else (no pre-selectors or anything else.)

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, I just can't figure out what it is...

I can search using user-defined properties... and also other selectors, such as date and time.

But I'll upgrade, just in case.

Yes, do that.

Also, for test, create a new database and add one folder with a couple of images.

Then try your search there. If it works with the test database we know that there is a problem with the other database.

Also, in the original database, do a rescan of a folder via the database wizard, with the "force update of all files" option enabled. This will reload all metadata from the file into the database. Maybe this "fixes" the search.

Another idea: Did you perhaps create this database with a beta version of IMatch 3.6? Several users reported that they cannot use the XMP search and all had created their database with the beta version of IMatch 3.6 without following my instructions on how to upgrade the database to the new naming schema introduced by Adobe late during the test phase.

The outcome of this is that the database works but XMP searches fail.

If this is the case with your database, the IMatch database converter has a special button to "upgrade" databases to the new naming schema.

Close IMatch. Make a backup copy of your database, run the database converter from the Tools menu and click on the "Upgrade old 3.6 Beta database" button. Select your database and let the process run.

Hi Mario,

sorry, I was offline for a few days..
I'll give the test a try. As for when I created this DB... I think it goes back to 3.5... I don't think I was one of the ones having used the Beta.

Thanks for the support.

Hi,

I have created a new DB. Pretty much everything as suggested, and created a search with just 1 option. Searching for XMP fields containing:

%ginnheim%

That works in the new DB..

Now I tried the same in the old one... and it also worked!

I did more tests, and for some reason (most) of the time it doesn't work in the old one! I cannot understand what is different betwwen the images or the XMP files and values... it all looks identical to me..

I'll test a bit more, and if necessary I will create a new BD with all my images. I might have to come back here to get some counsel on a couple of settings (if I have to create a new DB with my 100.000 images, I might as well make it right..)

Thanks!

Edit: As for forcing an update of folders.. I tried this with a few folders, but it makes no difference.

Did you run the upgrade procedure I indicated in my initial reply?

No, to be frank, because I interpreted your reply as only being necessary if it was an older DB.

Will also try that on a copy of the DB...

Thx
