Are you sure that Photomechanic isn't writing to the RAW files at all? PM's reported propensity for doing so without telling you about it was one reason I didn't ever get it.

Maybe my post was too long and not clear:

1) PM writes to the NEF (and to jpg of course)

2) PM does not write to the RW2.

If PM cannot/will not write to any raw it automatically creates an XMP buddy with all the metadata included. I think it only writes to NEF and CR2 (not sure about that)

Exiftool (Geotagger also of course) writes metadata to the RW2, but it is useless since IMatch cannot/will not read them.

Mario,

I just sent an xmp created by PM while ingesting an RW2 from my Pana GF1.

It won't read the IPTC, but iMatch will read the XMP that Geosetter/ExifTool also embeds, and that might be sufficient. I haven't had time to really test this yet - I have not one but two new cameras to play with. confused_bt

Edit Reason: Said ExifTool when I meant iMatch

Ferdinand,

I did some tests with the RW2: I erased the xmp then opened in Geosetter, wrote location + GPS, unchecked "write xmp" in the Geosetter preferences, and saved.

No xmp was created everything went into the RW2. It is displayed correctly in the IPTC tab of Irfanview and XnView.

And more interestingly it is read fine by ASP, IPTC is diplayed in the metadata tab. I converted to a jpg in ASP and the jpg shows also the IPTC. I then asked ASp to write an "real" xmp, it did, contains IPTC and looks normal. Could probably be read by IMatch.

SO if you are brave enough (I am not) you can do everything without xmp.

Do you like your NEX7 ?

Hello Mario,

Got your mail on my xxx@wanadoo.fr address. And I answered.

Probably when registered some years ago it was on an address with a provider that doesn't exist no more.

I will try to update my profile.

Francis
